Moa Gürbüzer, Founder of Oddbird

OUR STORY

Oddbird was founded in Sweden in 2013 by Moa Gürbüzer, a social worker, family therapist, and Master of Social Science. For over two decades, Moa worked with families affected by alcohol-related harm, which inspired her to pioneer a radical change in how we view drinking. Her vision was simple yet powerful: choosing a wine with or without alcohol should be as natural as choosing coffee with or without milk.

OUR FOUNDER

Moa Gürbüzer

For over 20 years, I worked as a family therapist to help people struggling with alcohol. I realized that the focus was almost always placed on the individual: finding strength within, taking responsibility for their own drinking, changing their behavior. But as I looked at the bigger picture, I recognized that the problem was not just within the individual, but within the structures that surround us all – the culture, the social pressures, the politics, and the alcohol industry itself. There were so many forces pushing people toward dependency, yet in my profession we were never allowed to discuss that. All the responsibility was placed on the individual, as if society itself were blameless. This became especially clear to me when I began teaching social work at a Swedish University. I realized that my first day on the job looked exactly the same as my last: the same life stories, the same dead ends, the same problems that never changed. Nothing was happening on a structural level. It struck me that the entire system of social services was built on placing blame on the individual, instead of working preventatively before addiction or dependency developed. When I stood there as an educator, looking at young students preparing to walk the same path, I reflected on my own work. That’s where the seed was planted, the idea that I wanted to contribute to change on a larger scale. The power lies in working preventatively and structurally, as we can’t always help once the damage is done, but we can create a new culture where fewer people even have to end up there in the first place.

FEATURED IN
leadership

Mehmet Gürbüzer, CEO

Leading the next chapter of our family-founded mission, expanding Oddbird into 20+ markets while staying true to why we began our journey.

our growth

Today, Oddbird is a world-leading producer of dealcoholized wine.

From this idea, Oddbird was born, a wine house dedicated exclusively to crafting premium wines liberated from alcohol. Today, Oddbird is the world’s leading producer in the premium alcohol-free wine segment and the largest in Europe, with a growing presence in the US, since expanding to the market in late 2024. Oddbird is featured in some of the world’s leading culinary destinations, including Michelin-starred restaurants, as chefs and sommeliers recognize the wine’s integrity and potential.

20+ markets

Oddbird is now poured in over twenty markets across Europe, North America, and Asia. From Michelin-starred restaurants to leading retailers, our wines appear in places where quality is non-negotiable. Each new market strengthens our mission: to make exceptional, liberated-from-alcohol wine part of everyday culture.

10 years

For more than a decade, Oddbird has challenged how the world thinks about wine. What began as a social mission has evolved into one of the most respected producers in the non-alcoholic category driven by research, craftsmanship, and a belief that great wine should be defined by its taste, not its alcohol content.

10+ million bottles

Over ten million bottles have now been enjoyed around the world. Every bottle reflects years of development, sensory analysis, and collaboration with winemakers across France, Italy, and Spain. The scale proves one thing clearly: when the quality is high, people choose it.

1000+ locations

Oddbird is available in more than one thousand locations around the world, from iconic department stores and boutique wine shops to innovative grocers redefining modern retail. Our presence continues to grow as more partners seek wines that offer elegance, complexity, and a new kind of freedom.
